What you need to prepare for our Paint Night Livestream!

This week, we’re inviting Jenna Cantamessa who has type 1 diabetes to our Live painting session on April 30th at 6:30 PM EST (11:30 PM GMT). Jenna will walk you through the steps to teach you how to create this amazing art piece!

She will also provide you with some different CGM and Pumps options for you to add into the arm for the artwork so that you can really make this piece your own!

Check out below for more details on how to prepare for this Live! We hope to see you there!

What do I need for this live stream?

You can choose to use a pencil to draw OR you can use the baking paper method. If you choose to use the baking paper method, be sure to download the template and print it out before the Livestream!

Supplies You’ll Need:

– 10″ x 12″ Canvas or you can use a thicker paper to paint on

– 4 x tones of acrylic paint (black and white are definites) but it’s up to the participants preference of colours

– 2 paint brushes: 1 x thick and 1 x thin

– 1 x thin black felt pen

– Hair dryer (for quick drying on the undercoats)

– Baking paper (used with cooking) to trace the image onto the canvas

– 1 x pencil

Instructions:

1. Use a pencil to outline the three lines that will be painted in between.

2. Mix acrylic paint colours or use them solid to paint in between the lines.

3. Blow dry first base coat

4. Paint a second coat

5. Blow dry again

6. With this next step you can either choose to use a pencil to free-hand draw the woman OR you can use the baking paper method.

If you pick the baking paper method;

  • Put baking paper over the printed image and trace the outline with your pencil (make sure it’s dark).
  • Now, position the baking paper on the canvas and make sure the side with the pencil drawing is faced down on the canvas (it will be a mirror image). Now again, trace the image that’s on the baking paper.
  • Lift the baking paper and you will have a light outline to paint!

7. Use your thin paint brush and paint over the outline in black.

8. To tidy your lines, use a black felt pen!

About the Artwork

Stripped of everything but the necessities to live. This artwork empowers women with T1D to feel beautiful and not hide what keeps them alive. You are brave, resilient, and strong. As Audre Lorde said, “That visibility which makes us most vulnerable is that which also is the source of our greatest strength.”
